What are you made of?
Both designers are inspired by the often forgotten Queen Ang Mey 1814-1874 who after her father - the King - passed was appointed as the head of the Khmer administration. Loved by none, blamed by many, a queen without a voice. Her people saw betrayal in her obedience, though her heart bore the weight of a daughter surviving a world ruled by men and empires. When she was no longer useful they discarded her - exiled, erased.

The cape in this outfit showcases ‘Kbach Khmer’ — traditional shapes in Cambodian culture that tell stories and serve as decoration in Angkorian temples, more modern architecture, and traditional fabrics.

In the rivers around Phnom Penh, ~20% of all waste are textiles (mostly clothes). Everwave removes this clothing alongside plastic and other materials from the river.

Why are there clothes in the river? They are a product of over production by factories, a saturation of secondhand clothes brought in from China, Korea, Japan, and a lack of waste infrastructure…and a larger faulty fashion system.
